Why Brexit is a capitalist wet dream!

Disaster capitalist Crispin Odey is just one of the hedge fund managers to have funded Boris Johnson’s bid to be Prime Minister, and who have taken out short positions betting on Britain crashing out of Europe without a deal at the end of October. So far they have bet over £4.6 Billion on a no deal Brexit where the British economy, industry and Sterling crashes at the end of October.

Odey is a London-based hedge fund manager and the founding partner of Odey Asset Management. In April 2011 the firm had $6.5 to $7 billion under management, with Odey personally running $4 billion of assets.

In early August this year, The Times revealed that Odey Asset Management had placed £299 million in short positions on some of Britain’s biggest firms around the date for a possible ‘no deal’ Brexit.”

The FT’s capital markets correspondent, Laurence Fletcher, writes:
Hedge fund manager Crispin Odey, a prominent Brexiteer and supporter of Boris Johnson, told the Financial Times he believes the Supreme Court ruling will have little impact. “I don’t think that matters,” said Mr Odey, who is the founder of Odey Asset Management. “The Supreme Court should have stayed out of this, but it doesn’t matter. We’re in a place where Boris is the only prime minister because they won’t get rid of him, and if they do then he’ll win [an election].” “The longer parliament declines to have a general election, the more it becomes the enemy of the people. He [Boris Johnson] is basically getting people behind the idea of ‘let’s get out'” of the EU, he added. Mr Odey said he expects Brexit to happen at the end of October, followed by a general election. “I think in five-to-six weeks’ time he [Boris Johnson] will be in Parliament with a 100-seat majority,” he said.

Odey was briefly married to Rupert Murdoch’s eldest daughter, Prudence, although the pair quickly separated. The marriage lasted 15 months.
He subsequently married Nichola Pease, deputy chairman of JO Hambro Capital Management and a member of one of the founding families of Barclays Bank. Nichola is younger daughter of Sir Richard Pease, 3rd Baronet, and a sister of Carolyn Varley (wife of John Varley) and Richard Pease, a funds manager.
